Det var aldrig riktigt meningen att vi skulle till Hawaii.
Vi hade inte tänkt oss USA över huvud taget, utom några dagar i New York på slutet.
Nu blir det inte New York, men det blev istället – plötsligt – Hawaii.
Det kan ju låta lite märkligt, men eftersom vi planerar och bokar varje millimeter av vår jorden runt-resa på egen hand kan det ibland uppstå nya alternativ som inte alls var tänkta från början.
Vi har alltså inte köpt någon färdig jorden runt-biljett med ett antal stopp inkluderade. Vi har inga paketlösningar eller någon resebyrå som hjälper till.
Vi bokar enkelbiljetter mellan destinationerna, och försöker att resa landvägen mellan länder om det går.
Det innebär såklart väldigt mycket mer jobb, fix och trix än om vi hade anlitat någon av de resebyrårer som är specialiserade på jorden runt-resor. Men det hade blivit väldigt mycket dyrare, plus att vi hade tappat en hel del av spontaniteten och friheten.
Nu gör vi precis som vi vill, men några saker styr förstås våra val och det är framför allt kostnader och hur vi kan ta oss vidare från länderna vi reser i.
Resrutten är som en kedja av händelser och platser som måste passa i varandra. Det räcker inte att det bara är billigt och enkelt att ta sig TILL ett land, vi måste ju också resa inom landet och även ta oss därifrån på något bra sätt.
Ofta använder jag tidiga morgnar när barnen ännu sover till planeringsfixet. Om vi har internetuppkoppling där vi bor är det en utmärkt tid att greja med sånt utan att det tar tid från vad vi nu vill göra av resten av dagen.
Ibland går allt snabbt och smidigt. Men när det gällde att hitta en smart rutt vidare från Nya Zeeland över till Central- eller Sydamerika höll jag på att bli tokig.
Det kändes som jag hade kollat ALLT. Ständigt minst tio flikar öppna i webläsaren med diverse kartor och flygbokningssajter, men antingen tog flygen flera dygn och/eller blev tokdyra.
Jag sökte nog flyg till varenda huvudstad i Central- och Sydamerika, läste på, googlade lite mer, lusläste kartor och avstånd.
Tills jag plötsligt hamnade på Hawaii. Hit gick det ju faktiskt en direktflight från Auckland, och efter ytterligare en stunds sökningar fick jag till en multistoppbiljett till Las Vegas, med en veckas stopp på Hawaii.
För nästan 10000 kronor lägre pris än vad jag hittat dittills, och jag hittade också en bra och prisvärd lösning vidare sen till Centralamerika.
– Varför inte? sa vi till varandra, och tryckte på BOKA.
Så svängdes resrutten på ett ögonblick om, och nu blir det alltså Nordamerika redan nu, och sen vidare ner till Nicaragua, Costa Rica och Panama, och sen in i Sydamerika.
Nu har vi hängt på Hawaiis stränder i en vecka. Haft galet kul på de världsberömda surfvågorna med våra boogieboards, som är som mindre och bredare surfbrädor som man ligger på och glider med vågorna.
Vi har ätit Hawaiiansk mat på Honolulus gator, kollat på gatuartister, badat på Waikiki beach och åkt runt nästan hela den lilla ön Oahu i vår hyrbil.
Ett oväntat stopp som blev grymt bra.
Inatt reser vi vidare till Las Vegas och gör den stan en vecka. Vilket alltså inte heller riktigt var meningen, men det blir nog bra, det också.
