Det här är berättelsen om hur vi mötte Ruth och Blaine, som har kommit att bli som en slags familj till oss under ett antal veckor.

Vi träffade Ruth och Blaine första gången på ett hostel i den lilla flodstaden El Castillo i Nicaragua. Vi hade sovit en natt där, och nu satt jag på verandan och försökte få iväg en fil via mejlen. Det var otroligt seg uppkoppling och jag kände mig lite stressad, och hälsade bara helt kort när de två nya gästerna i övre medelåldern anlände.
Det visade sig snart att de också var på väg till Basecamp Bartola en timme bort i regnskogen, en enkel liten camping mitt i naturen. Så jag insåg snart att jag var tvungen att hälsa lite mer ordentligt och trevligt än vad jag gjort under mitt mejlstrulande…

Att resa på det sätt vi gör innebär otroligt många möten med andra människor, både lokalbefolkning och andra resenärer. På alla dessa hostels vi bott på i en rad olika länder – det är som vandrarhem med framför allt backpackers som gäster – hamnar många långtidsresenärer. De flesta mycket sociala människor, och oftast är det väldigt roligt att dela stunder av reseprat, tips och livshistorier.
Och ibland har man ingen lust alls. Vi är ute och reser så länge att jag tror att vi ibland behöver välja bort en del socialt prat, och bara vara i vårt eget.
Men så möter man sådana som Ruth och Blaine. Hon 57, han 65, från Kanada.
Och efter någon timme ihop där på vår tältplats mitt i djungeln kändes det som vi hade känt varandra hur länge som helst.
Deras egna barn är nästan i min och Patriks ålder, och de har inga barnbarn, och ändå tog de till sig Milo och Jack direkt.
Allt kändes bara så… självklart.
Vi började dela alltfler samtal. Förstås om våra respektive pågående resor, vår jorden runt och de ett halvår runt i Centralamerika. Vi reser båda budget, väljer gärna små ställen, letar bra priser, vill komma nära länderna och folket i de länder vi besöker. Men också om mycket annat.
Efter de fyra dagarna som tältgrannar påbörjade vi gemensamt vår resa från Nicaragua och över gränsen till Costa Rica dagen.

När vi tillslut, efter en lång resa i lokalbuss, hittade ett okej budgethotell på vår nya destination – La Fortuna – i Costa Rica, så fick vi familjepris för att de tog ett rum och vi det andra i en minilägenhet på hotellet.
Och ja. Vi har blivit som en liten resefamilj. De spelar Yatzy och Uno med Milo och Jack, pratar engelska med dem på det där självklara viset – utan att göra sig till eller förenkla – så att deras kunskapsnivå när det gäller engelskan har stigit radikalt sen vi mötte dem.
Vi skildes åt för några dagar, då vi hade olika planer (när vi drog på vår roadtrip och hamnade här), men häromdagen checkade de återigen in på samma boende som oss, fortfarande i Costa Rica men nu på karibiska kusten.

Vi äter middagarna ihop, hänger på stranden och går promenader. Tillbringar en del tid var för sig, och mycket tid ihop.

Åldersskillnad och medborgarskap spelar förstås ingen roll alls. Det känns liksom som att det var meningen att vi skulle träffa varandra och dela den här tiden. Så givande, så berikande, och så rakt igenom trevligt.
Det blir några dagar till, och kanske får vi till några gemensamma dagar även i Panama.
Sen skiljs vi åt. Men jag vet redan nu att det kommer att bli med en stark förvissning om att vi kommer att ses igen. Någon dag.
